| Mostly a pan. But there was love for Kidman. ------------------ Nowhere, though, do its good intentions and stylistic aspirations find better expression than in the show-stopping sequence that comes on ever so quietly when Ms. Kidman’s Angie tries to shore up young Emma’s courage in the face of adult bigotry. As a dancer—not a star but a chorus girl down on her luck—Angie does what comes naturally. She is funny, slyly sexy, pleasantly trashy, thoroughly endearing and wonderfully entertaining. What a joy “The Prom” might have been if the rest of the film had been up to her moves. |
