We're all wanting to say goodbye to a lot of things in 2020. Can we add weak tea meta-musicals to the list, please? Not much honest or viable "zazz" in this number, and I assume that extends to the film in general. (I got a similar feeling from the Tony performance - which I felt was trying way too hard to be a mediocre copy of a copy of a copy of Hairspray or something like it, and just seemed forced instead of enjoyable.)
It also might be really nice to say goodbye to musicals centered on high school students (as played by adults) for a little while. ;-) |
