It was nice to see so many Broadway vets, including Maria Dizzia, Jason Kravits, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Adriane Lenox, Annaleigh Ashford, Rosemary Harris, and Jeremy Shamos in smaller roles. This was the first time I've seen Noma Dumezweni outside of Harry Potter, and I enjoyed her performance.
I don't know if I've ever seen a project made for American television that takes place in the US where so many of the main roles are played by actors who don't have native American/Canadian accents. Even the son is from England. There was quite a bit of accent slipping, which was distracting. In addition, I think Douglas Hodge's choice of New York accent wasn't a good one, and he sounded very phony IMO. |
