This catastrophe affects all of us who value the Great American Songbook and the shows associated with it. For half a century, the York has been presenting excellent productions of lesser-known and nearly forgotten musicals, and I'm sure they will need financial help, in addition to any insurance money, to resume. The American Musical is the gift the USA has given the world, and the York celebrates that fact better than anyone. I've travelled extensively to see rare musicals, and can say unequivocally that NO ONE DOES WHAT THE YORK DOES BETTER THAN THEY DO! It's a tough time to ask for money, but at least keep the York on your radar for a donation when feasible. If you value Hammerstein lyrics, Kander vamps, and Sondheim anything, supporting the York now is a moral imperative.
