I don't share your perspective on this. The musical SPAMALOT is a different animal from the movie on which it was based, as was the case with HAIRSPRAY, etc. If good movie versions of these musicals can be made, why is that something you would lament with a sigh?

I would say the film version of PYGMALION is quite iconic. Do you sigh at the fact that a movie of the stage musical MY FAIR LADY was eventually made? Or do you somehow see that as different because PYGMALION started as a stage before it was a film? (I personally can't see how that would or should make any difference.)

Also, of course the film of SPAMALOT will not be a "remake," it will be the first film version of a stage musical based on a movie.
