Bert Convy sang the challenging score of "Nine" well, looked good, and was overall fine, especially as a brief replacement fill-in. Sergio Franchi (the only full-time Guido replacement and also star of the national tour) was obviously the most Italianate, and had a near-operatic voice.

But as Tommy Tune once said to me (referring only to his original '82 Broadway production), "the show didn't work without Raul Julia."

Sad to note that Julia, Convy and Franchi all died in the first half of the '90s.
