role in "Carnival In Flanders". You can hear the vocal heft, richness and beauty in her voice and how it easily carried in a theater. I believe there is a dance with the original company on-line as well, but otherwise this was a very quick, unrecorded flop. Gray still holds the record for the Tony win in the shortest run, I believe. The 1934 film comedy it is based on, La Kermesse Héroïque (sometimes retitled "Carnival in Flanders") is very good if you ever get a chance to see it. A bit of trivia: this was Johnny Carson's favorite song. | |
