I agree with what you say in theory. However, it is a two-way street. I was lucky enough to see the great Dolores Gray in Follies in London, and I will always remember how exciting she was in performance and how glamorous and kind she was at stage door afterward, signing photos and her wonderful record, Warm Brandy, for us. But I have also worked with stars who were drinking and messing things up on stage. I feel that it is the duty of the performer to be in full command of their faculties, not inebriated, to perform on stage for the paying public and to support their fellow cast members.
