When Nine opened (same season as Dreamgirls) it hadn’t had any out of town tryout and there wasn’t a web to create a general buzz of expectations. It was a gorgeous production. But I though I would jump out of my seat when the delectably gifted Anita Morris ( in a now “iconic” William Ivey Long lace catsuit) brought the house done with A Call to the Vatican. I didn’t think it was possible to sing in so many positions! The number was witty, athletic, hilarious and sexy simultaneously.
