This was the 2nd production of the show I saw. I fell in love with it having never heard it or anything when I saw a high school production, if you can believe that. Then I discovered this production because of the BBC broadcast, and it's still by far my favorite that I've seen (obviously this doesn't include the original). And I think it's easily the most successful modernizing or "today-izing" of the show. Sam Mendes vision of it worked perfectly for me, in a way Marianne Elliot's *absolutely did not*. John Doyle's modern take also worked for me, but I would never want someone to see that version as their first exposure to the show or score especially.
