|So many comments about the recent “announcement” of the Aaron Sorkin film about the relationship between my parents, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Everyone wanting to know my feelings. This one comment from a fan of theirs for many years sums up everything I would have said. Thank you, Michael Thomas Mooney.
“This will be my only comment on this subject. As Lucy lovers, knowing that this project has been guided to fruition by Lucie and Desi Jr. and is in the hands of such high-profile creatives should be enough for us to have every hope that it will be something that serves the subject well and not dismiss it out of hand based on our personal preferences.
1. If the producers wanted Messing they would hire her. Trust they know what they are doing. Casting is a creative choice based on a myriad of factors.
2. This is not a strict remake of "I Love Lucy". The actors are playing Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, not just Lucy and Ricky. These were complex and private people. So 'funny' (which Lucille Ball always said she wasn't) and being the spitting image of the couple (this is not a Vegas look-alike show) is not as imperative as depicting real people through expert performances and skillful writing.
3. As fans, we should want MORE attention for Lucy and Desi, not bashing the effort to create something that will doubtless create a lot of interest in folks that we know well deserve it.
4. Trust. Wait. Watch. ❤
