But the puzzle continues. There had already been a lyric change - different again - in the DVD version filmed on tour in 1982. Also, the structure on stage then seems to have been different from the original cast album.
Also, I'm fairly sure my VHS version of the tour video cut the song enormously, but when I looked at the clips available of the (I assume) DVD, it seems to be all there, but, as I say, in a form different from the cast album.
Which makes me continue to wonder whether the song for some reason wasn't going over. But given the Vietnam War at the time of the original, I would have thought the satire was virtually a certainty for effectiveness.
