I wish I felt the same. I've only listened to the revival album once because I don't feel how you do about the sound. Sadly I think they tried to force it to sound like a pop score and altogether more modern than it has the strength or structure to bear. This score, to me, is best suited in the style of music it was written in. This is not a bad thing, it's a great thing. But to me the score is impacted negatively but forcing this revised sound onto it.

But then I'm also someone who didn't think the circus 'vision' pasted onto the show worked. Having a circus troupe singing clear references to a traveling band of players made no sense and it didn't work itself out for me after that -- though I did definitely enjoy the production I found it to all be too too much, and reflect a misunderstanding of the piece. Obviously Schwartz was very involved and on board so what to do I know, but at the same time even his own son has directed the show in a way I feel is astoundingly wrong-headed without Stephen's objection I assume, so what does he know! lol. :)
