Barnes review of Look Away provides an hilarious perspective on the Mrs. Lincoln plays. The only thing I can think of that explains this is that the various playwrights started writing their plays during the rash of centennial coverage of all things Civil War and post-Civil War in the late 1960s and it took until 1973 to get the plays written and produced.
