|My only experiences with Pippin have been the 1980s production with Ben Vereen and Cheets and the 2013 revival. In both instances, I haven't found the story, the plot that involving. For me, it's been largely about the storytelling, the theatrical interpretation and presentation -- the staging. As such, it's always been the score, the performances and the Fosse staging (or, in the case of the revival, the Fosse-inspired staging) that captivated me. So, whether or not individual moments in the script "track" is a distant secondary concern to me when it comes to Pippin. It's whether the theatrical "magic" happens. Which, in both productions, I think it does in abundance.|
