Perhaps the difference is, I don't care about the STORY so much as the storyTELLING in this particular case

My only experiences with Pippin have been the 1980s production with Ben Vereen and Cheets and the 2013 revival. In both instances, I haven't found the story, the plot that involving. For me, it's been largely about the storytelling, the theatrical interpretation and presentation -- the staging. As such, it's always been the score, the performances and the Fosse staging (or, in the case of the revival, the Fosse-inspired staging) that captivated me. So, whether or not individual moments in the script "track" is a distant secondary concern to me when it comes to Pippin. It's whether the theatrical "magic" happens. Which, in both productions, I think it does in abundance.
