My memory is that Ashford did some good choreography for a few shows when he was only employed as a choreographer, but ever since he has been hired time and again to direct AND choreograph shows, his work in both areas has been......shall we say, unsatisfactory.
On the other hand, I well remember that Rob Marshall's choreography of the PROMISES, PROMISES overture for the Encores! production was one of the most exciting pieces of staging I've ever seen in my life -- and I'm glad I got to tell him that personally a few months later. |
