I agree with all you say and yet, what is there to expound upon as to Nichols' purported affairs with Avedon and other men? If the participants are not able or willing to comment, I'd rather not hear from anonymous sources. Of course, it would be fascinating to hear what Diane Sawyer, Elaine May or Meryl Streep or the late Nora Ephron had to say about Nichols' sexuality, but that's just not going to happen. I wonder if they would say it informed his work? I don't know.
