I agree mostly with you, but one point of nuance:
Those in the equity movements have fought against stereotyping that lumps all gay people's thoughts into a pre-determined mold--gay people think this, gay people believe that--but does not seek to say that sexuality does not influence thought or shape a world view. Much like any of the appetites, sexuality can and does shape any of a number of aspects of an artist's life and can be a useful lens to examine their work. Not always interesting, illuminating, nor relevant, perhaps, but it is not stereotyping to wonder about how a person's sexuality may factor into their work. |
