I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of Raisin, I find it to be a brilliant musicalization of an equally brilliant play. Because plays and musicals are very different life forms the two, side by side have different emphasises but they each tell the story in their own way. I recently revisited a very good production of Raisin and found it still works its magic, at least for me. I saw it three times, twice on Broadway and once on tour with much of the original cast.
I also find myself disagreeing with your opinions of several other musicals, but none as strongly as I disagree about Raisin. I would actually put it into my list of 100 or so greatest musicals. |
