| I have limited experience with Raisin, I've never had a chance to see it -- but it's also very rarely produced. I don't think it deserves to be competing for Worst of the best musical winners at all, I put it on the list of weak winner because it is so little known compared to so many winners, and is so rarely performed or even referenced in the culture or the musical theater culture. Perhaps in 25 years the same will be true of Band's Visit... but I was able to see Band's Visit so of course it has a bigger impact on me. For some perspective on my opinion, I really do like Hallelujah Baby and Two Gentlemen, both listed and described under the same as Raisin was... it's not because they're not good but because the collective broadway consciousness doesn't seem to pay them much mind and neither, in my experience, do the larger realm of broadway nerd culture (of course there are many in that world who love them and praise them). I'm sure the same could be said by many for shows I adore that are similarly unsung gems, like Zorba. I'm curious what other musicals you disagree with me on. I'm sure we will continue to disagree but just stating you don't agree with me on "several" is no fun if you don't say which. |
