| To mince words and split hairs by saying things like “Well, Contact isn’t really a musical, so it’s Contact”, or “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder is a poor man’s Edwin Drood, so it has to be Gentleman’s Guide”, is ridiculous and highly subjective thinking. As others below have said, looking at the field objectively - and while acknowledging that each show has its partisans and that even a dud like Memphis had some good choreography and fine performances - based on the actual quality of the material and the musical, without making false-equivalency comparisons to other shows from other seasons, the worst best musical winner of all time - worse than Redhead, Hallelujah Baby, Applause, Raisin, or Kinky Boots, and all other challengers - far and away is Memphis. |
