You misunderstand my mention of Ain't Misbehavin. I didn't include it in my post because it's bad, of course it's a wonderful show, but in terms of musicals and being compared in terms of best or worst to musicals which have an original score (or catalogue score shaped to tell a story with clear characters who have emotional arcs, relationships and interact in a plot or dramatic concept) and characters and story, I don't think it would be fair to throw AM in even though it won in its year. Same would be said for any winner that the same elements are missing in (hence when I mentioned Fosse and Jerome Robbins Broadway). I did not include Jersey Boys, for example, because it is a raved about jukebox musical that tells a compelling story with songs utilized the way a book musical does.

And I think I explained why Kismet is there. My post had 3 lists... the main one was of the general contenders, the Best Musical winners that have been dismissed for comparative quality reasons, or largely forgotten (sometimes due to not being quite as good as the shows that stayed afloat in the collective consciousness of broadway fans/nerds, despite being still competent and containing some wonderful highlights). The next much smaller list were the 4 or so that would be competing for my personal pick. And then the couple i think from my observation are the main contenders for the general broadway nerd scene.

No need to keep defending Raisin, I didn't start by maligning it and I would love to see a good production of it some day. But you can't argue that it is largely forgotten, especially by those not old enough or able to have seen it on Bway or on a tour.
