"Cats" movie sustains its disturbing factor for the entirety of the movie, whereas "The Irishman" only hits that peak in brief moments, but when it does, it's disturbing for the same reason: you know that what you are looking at is fake, and yet it is purporting to be real, which creates a vertigo as the brain tries to make sense of the uncanny.
And "The Irishman" is worse in one way, which is that DeNiro's young face not only doesn't look real, but it's absurdly made up, with rosy cheeks like a bad school play or drag gone wrong. |
