Ha well, I have to assert that I don't agree. I think the score is often fantastic, the songs and the underscoring which is pretty amazing.
The Overture
The Car Chase
Surrender
With One Look
The Greatest Star of All
New Ways to Dream
The Perfect Year
Sunset Boulevard
As If We Never Said Goodbye
Eternal Youth Is Worth a Little Suffering

I wish the score only used those songs.

I hate the Betty/Joe stuff and basically all of the score that doesn't take place at the mansion or with Norma, but I even think "Too Much In Love to Care" is fairly good for the kind of song it is, but I could take it or leave it. It's more of a great notion of song, not especially satisfying in how it's realized as a song... but it does get there now and then.

The problem for me is everything else packed into the score, and all the reusing of these melodies and motifs with new dialogue-y lyrics put onto them that suffocate the show and make it come off much sillier than it should be as a piece.
