Band's Visit is certainly not a "typical" musical in many ways. So, it's bound to have people confused by it or who just don't warn to it, and conversely, it's bound to have people that really get it and love it. (I would put a show like Passion in a similar situation). I'm definitely one in the "love it" camp, and I'm thrilled that it won so many Tonys. But I can understand people who don't feel the same.
As is typical for me, I fell in love with the CD first, then loved the show even more when I saw it on Broadway. When the pandemic hit last March, the tour was just about to hit Boston - and then of course it didn't. I was really looking forward to seeing it in that context. I hope it will tour again eventually. |
