As FrenchDip says, there are many shows in Mexico City under normal circumstances. Not only do they have replica productions (usually produced by Ocesa and Mejor Teatro) there are also lots of high-quality local productions. Teatro de los Insurgentes usually produces a musical a year. Additionally these local productions have started to tour in the last few years. I’m not sure if they travel to your friends’ neck of the woods, but it’s worth checking out. It should be noted that all of these shows will be in Spanish.
Some non-eq tours used to travel through Mexico City years ago, but I think that’s dried up. Recently Broadway Across America has started branch in Monterrey. Not near your friends at all, but it’s an option. Hope that helps. |
