I've never seen ''Redhead'' either, so all I've heard is the cast recording, and there's video of Gwen Verdon doing ''Erbie Fitch's Twitch.''
Can't say they impressed me either, though maybe there are two nifty songs in the Hague-Fields score: ''Look Who's in Love'' & ''I'll Try.''
Judging only by their scores, I sorta wish ''Flower Drum Song'' won Best Musical instead.
Rodgers & Hammerstein wrote a number of terrific tunes: ''A Hundred Million Miracles,'' ''I Enjoy Being a Girl,'' ''You Are Beautiful,'' ''Love, Look Away'' and ''Grant Avenue,'' to name a few. Happily, there's a 16-minute segment from ''Flower Drum Song'' from ''The Ed Sullivan Show.''
(Is Gwen doing ''Erbie Fitch'' - on YouTube - the only available footage from ''Redhead''? Hope there was more to the show than that!) |
