"Erbie Fitch's Twitch" from "Redhead" is one of the great Verdon-Fosse numbers. Her character Essie, a very shy sheltered girl who works in a wax museum with her maiden aunts, summons the guts to audition for something and tries to do the very corny music hall routine her Daddy did years ago; the trick is that it was designed to be bad to the on-stage auditors while allowing Verdon to look incredible to us with her movement, including some very difficult isolation and coordination of her feet while switching back and forth between the two ladies 'Erbie Fitch is torn between, rapid-free patter and wonderful acting that makes you feel sorry and marvel at her nearly at the same time.
There's also video of Gwen doing "I Feel Merely Marvelous" from "Redhead" which pops up once in a while on-line. Highly recommended if you find it, as she is charm personified in her manner, voice and dancing |
