I love this question, but I must tell you that the Mexican "Irma La Douce" (1963) did not go to Virma Gonzalez. Instead, it went to the aforementioned Silvia Pinal, first lady of Mexican film and stage. Silvia's "Irma" only got a 45rpm recording.
A Bunuel diva, Silvia's Mexican musicals and cast recordings include "Annie Get Your Gun," "Hello, Dolly!," and "Gypsy" (with her actual daughter as Louise). She did "Mame" twice, and while Angela's "Mame" revival in '83 floundered, Silvia's '85 "Mame" revival got her a second "Mame" cast album. |
