Agreed that a movie of the musical is not necessary, and I doubt it will ever happen.

I think ALW missed the boat on this one. When the Broadway and London productions of "Sunset" were both folding in 1997, he should have had the show filmed or taped on one of those sets, probably in London where such things seem to be cheaper. And as the biggest name in the bunch, Glenn Close would have been the likely choice for the taping. This would have been something along the lines of the film made of the "Cats" stage production.

I was fairly positive that when Glenn did the 2016 London concert revival then brought it to New York, this would finally provide the basis for the taping that should have happened in the '90s.

Of course that didn't happen, as ALW and Glenn would appear to be holding out for an actual movie. But I think taping the show on that original set would have been the best way to go.
