But I believe at the time Liza wasn't Liza yet.
She was more of an awkward gawky performer than what you saw in Cabaret. (Sterile Cukoo, Charlie Bubbles)
Fosse created all the movements and stuff for her in Cabaret to give her confidence. She then incorporated it into her solo singing career. She has said that the confidence of the character was very hard for her at first in the film but Fosse (and Verdon) built her up and then did it again with Liza with a Z and that became her new image. |
