| I saw a remount of that production at Asolo Rep in 2013. That version makes a troubled second act even more of a complete mess, if that is possible. I have to state that thanks to John McGlinn I am a huge fan of staying as close as possible to the 1927 version. Prune some of the offensive parts away in the second act and it will still hold together as well as possible. Prince's version was a better take on Act II but what he did to the show as a whole was, at least for me revolting, pulling it way away from what Kern and Hammerstein wrote. |
