There are reports Prince wanted to fire Kahn all along and that he was giving her a hard time for quite a while during rehearsals (one rumor is he thought he had hired Bernadette Peters (!) instead of Kahn -- which i find hard to believe). Apparently Comden/Green and other powers that be told Prince, she ain't going anywhere, what with a $1 million+ advance based on Kahn's movie fame, at least at some point before the opening.
