But none of the Sally replacements were contracted for SO long that an early firing would be necessary if one of them didn't deliver or fans/word-of-mouth was bad.
The issue with someone like Kahn, or rather her circumstance, was that she was *opening* a *new* musical. Replacements have much less pressure or importance, and revivals can be sold on a mix of cast and the show's title/popularity/anticipation, etc. Obviously Natasha got raves and was a fav, and the revival of the revival opened with Michelle Williams who got mixed response I recall, but she wasn't in it long enough to get fired nor were any of her replacements. And if anything, that production of Cabaret and Alan Cumming doing it again were the focus of selling that revival.
Ultimately if a star is still selling tickets, the producer wouldn't even consider firing them despite any outrage on All That Chat, lol. |
