I saw the revival, my first time seeing the show in any form. I thought it was very well produced -- nicely designed and performed by an expert cast. However, I didn't care for the material. The score left be cold and the script wasn't very funny. I recall everything being very big and frantic, with a lot happening all the time. I was both bored and exhausted. It's a show I never need to see again.
That said, Chenoweth was terrific. Her comedic skills and high soprano made her perfect for the part. It's hard to imagine any other current actress being able to pull it off. I remember thinking that, had I been a Tony voter, she would have had my vote. |
