| Thanks for the details from the Propst book, Alan. When I read that book, Kahn's attitude toward high notes truck me as so odd. I think any soprano will tell you that, if you have high notes solidly in your range, it it not difficult to sing them in isolation even eight times a week. That is not generally considered vocally taxing, whereas other things are -- for example, having to hammer away in a high tessitura for any length of time, having to repeatedly switch from raw belting to soprano singing and back, etc. I guess Kahn really was exceptionally neurotic about her voice, which is a damned shame. |
