| Yes, it most certainly started with Prince, who wrote about the casting of Sally in his memoir, Contradictions. Prince wrote that Kander & Ebb wanted Liza (for the original Broadway production), but Prince felt she was too good a singer. And that he said was a flaw in the movie. |
