| I have read a lot about Kaye taking over full time right away, and how talented she was/is, but also how she was both not entirely perfect for the difficult role (her lack of quirk, sexiness, and that special star quality)... Regardless of what anything thinks of Kaye's fit for the role, she was absolutely not a big name star on stage or screen. So with so much box office riding on Kahn originally, why wouldn't they have replaced Kahn with another star rather than promoting her understudy? I know the role is quite difficult but at the same time, that can be reigned in a bit for whatever the worthwhile star's weaknesses may be, lowering some notes or keys, etc. If the show plays best with a *star* playing Lily, and the box office needs the star name, why wasn't a star put in? (obviously I know they may have looked and not found anyone willing to do it who could pull it off and be a box office draw, but I've read no mention of a search, or even rumors) |
