| There weren't that many name box-office soprano stars around then. Perhaps Julie Andrews, who folks who love the theater had wanted for the longest time to come back to the theater until she finally did "Putting it Together" and "Victor/Victoria" in the late 80s. But she didn't really want to do a demanding score, as "My Fair Lady" was difficult enough for her to do years before, that she agreed to do "Camelot" even back in 1960 only if Lerner and Loewe wrote her an easier sing for her to do 8 times a week. Perhaps someone like Beverly Sills, about 3 years or so away from ending her opera career, would have been box-office and up to the vocal and acting demands? But she was probably already booked up for those years until her opera retirement. | |
