| Sills retired around 1980 or 1981 I believe. "20th Century" was like 1977-78. In her late 40s, Sills on stage could have pulled it off, as she played other younger roles in opera. She actually retired pretty young at like age 50, after having decided she wanted to really go for 10 or so great years doing really demanding parts in her voice category, rather than spacing them out with less demanding roles along the way and doing another 10 years or so on stage. |
