| Sills did comic dialogue when she played Rosalinde and also Adele in "Die Fledermaus" and probably "Merry Widow" along the way. True, she didn't feature a belt, but she was a great vocal technician and probably could have found a way to make it work, the same way perhaps Barbara Cook negotiated a way to sing "Where's My Shoe?" in "She Loves Me" in a quasi-belty way for a soprano. All conjecture, of course, but kind of fun to think about! :) |
