| Almost thirty years ago I used to dream of a film of Follies with Streisand as Phyllis and Liza Minnelli as Sally. I recall that I had Mandy Patinkin and Treat Williams (before he was cast in the show on Broadway) as the male leads and Angela Lansbury, Carol Channing, and Diahann Carroll in smaller roles. As a proper adult this sounds completely insane to me. I am looking forward to the next broadway revival with Audra as Sally but I don’t believe that the piece could work as a film and certainly not with Barbra directing or performing a leading role. |
