| The problem is that the two time periods the show is taking place in pretty much have to be 1971 and 1941 because part of what we're talking about here is the end of those big FOLLIES type entertainments, which certainly didn't continue into the 1940's and 1950's. Given that, the two leads, who were showgirls in the last edition of the WEISSMAN FOLLIES couldn't really be much older than 50ish in 1971. And, remember, there are also FOLLIES vets at this party who are older than the leads who were in previous editions of the show...so, if we're saying that we're casting the leads in their mid to late 60's, what does that mean for the characters who are meant to be that age or older? If we're talking about changing up ages and time periods, I'd love to see a FOLLIES-esque show about a reunion of participants in a 1970's drag revue. Instead of a world war putting a stop to the show, we'd have characters who faced a different kind of war in the early '80's. And the reunion party could be taking place in the early 2000's or so. But it could follow the FOLLIES template with characters trying to make sense of their pasts and futures while drinking a lot and doing a number or two. It could also feature flashbacks to their younger selves and ghosts of those no longer with them. |
