| Agreed...this would need to be an entirely new thing, but I could see writers fashioning their new show after FOLLIES and then departing from the FOLLIES model when and where they'd need to in order to tell a similar, but different story with characters who might share some traits with characters from FOLLIES, but would, necessarily have to be different, if only because their life experiences would be very different. For example, I could definitely see a gay couple (let's call them Phil and Ben) who met while one was featured in this drag revue and, in the intervening years, have seen their relationship cool as one spouse has risen in the political world and become a Log Cabin Republican while the other was essentially sidelined into the role of perfect and dutiful same gender spouse. Or another (let's call them Sal and Buddy) who went in the direction of having a life in the suburbs and raising kids, but are dealing with the emotional instability of one spouse and the chronic infidelity of the other. And maybe Sal and Ben were a thing once upon a time. Anyway, it's not a terrible idea for a show, but I wonder how close new writers could hew to the FOLLIES template before a cease and desist letter from the FOLLIES stakeholders arrived at their door. |
