| "I saw both Kahn and Kaye, and I also find the idea that Judy Kaye couldn't act it to be ridiculous. I thought she was hands down better than Kahn. In fact, I think she gave one of the best musical-comedy performances I've ever seen from anyone. I thought she was funnier than Kahn, warmer and realer than Kahn, and sang it better. And they both were better than Chenoweth, who should have been terrific. For me, her performance was just not believable for one second. And even in broad farce, you want to see believable human beings." Agreed 100 percent on all counts. And, not to put too fine a point on it, my objection to the previous comment about Judy Kaye is that saying she "couldn't act" the part in OTTC would be a gross overstatement even if one did not like her performance, and it's also tremendously insulting. As for Chenoweth, I imagine she would have been as great in the part as we all expected her to be if someone else had directed that production. |
