That's one interpretation. Another interpretation is that Kahn was excessively neurotic about her singing voice, and/or that she just didn't have the energy and/or the stamina and/or the will to do eight a week of a demanding leading role in a musical. Question, did she ever even ask to do less than eight a week of OTTC? Not that that request would have been granted, but I'm just wondering. Of course, many years later, Audra McDonald asked to have an alternate for PORGY AND BESS and was refused, so as a result she just began missing lots of performances. Perhaps that's what would have happened with Kahn if she had stayed in OTTC. |
