With you on all of this including being Jewish - as I am myself. I suppose for me, horrible idea of chemicals in a closed room not-withstanding, the issue is the guise of "needing to save the arts, and theatre and so on," (of course) but in reality, isn't it all so that ALW, a landowner still i believe to some degree is bound to mortgages that may have the good fortune of a moratorium for the moment (though who knows) but will most certainly come due, and that will be in the many many millions. The options end up without producer rents and patron income being depleting one's own savings (which never are endless, even if it is in the billion dollar range), declaring bankruptcy for the company, losing everything, or selling off everything at very reduced prices, losing maybe even more than he has to leverage. Granted, like Bernie Madoff, there is always a nice little stash somewhere, but who even knows? Either way, with ALW it doesn't ever feel, no matter how hard he tries, about saving the art - . I would gander a guess that in the case of Sondheim, whatever the idea, at least it would be rooted in that.
