As for Chenoweth, I imagine she would have been as great in the part as we all expected her to be if someone else had directed that production.
I've gone hot and cold with Chenoweth over the years, and ultimately do respect her a lot for what she CAN do. But my biggest problem has always been the little girl helium speaking voice. To me, even if she sings like Lily Garland, she speaks like a very young Mildred Plotka, and I'm not sure I'd be able to reconcile the two. What she has always needed is a voice coach for her speaking voice, not just a good director. |
