I wonder if she auditioned for Evita. I know she auditioned for A Doll's Life and they loved her singing but thought she was wrong acting wise.

She did record Be On Your Own from Nine and is pretty great. She'd have fit the character too. BTW that is the first time I heard the lyric correctly. It is "and what will be is that you'll leave" on the album I always thought Akers sang "and what will be is annually." I guess as a kid I thought she meant they'll see each other once a year.

I didn’t know that re A Doll’s Life. I didn’t see the Broadway production but saw the revised version at the York.

I think she could have acted the role beautifully. Of course, the show probably still wouldn’t have worked. It is a beautiful score in a flawed story.

I'm a giant Buckley fan and assume she would have made an ideal Eva. And perhaps she would have been great in the "nine" role as well, but I have always disliked this recording of 'be on your own'. It's the one and only time I would describe Buckley's singing as strident.
