| It may not get much play on the radio or on tv (except for more secular kind of Christmas songs on holiday specials), but I think songs written in the style of the great American Songbook with great melodies and wonderful lyrics can be appreciated by some percentage of younger people if they are exposed to them. The Beatles and lots of rock 'n roller also wrote great melodies with memorable lyrics, too. I don't want to hear an Addison who just raps. Patter maybe, but more along the lines of Harold Hill or G&S Major General type characters, which have some relatively simple melody, in conjunction with all the words coming out, might work. Of course, George Sanders, the original Addison had a beautiful singing voice, on display in the film of "Call Me Madam" singing ballads by Irving Berlin! |
